Dear Mr. Rasmus:\pp
Thank you very much for the information enclosed with your letter of the
17th.\pp
I am indeed interested in employment with Schlumberger. All the written
literature I have seen and all my conversations with friends who have
had contact with Schlumberger have confirmed my opinion that I would
very much like to work for you as a field engineer. Therefore, as per
your request, I enclose the completed application you sent me and an
official transcript of my studies at Stanford University. I also enclose
a Xerox copy of my transcript from Colorado College for your immediate use.
An official copy of the same transcript will follow.\pp
You asked about my grade point average. Neither of the schools I have attended
maintain a calculation of a grade point average. I have calculated what I
believe to be the appropriate values---omitting liberal arts courses
taken on a pass/fail basis and all physical education courses. At Colorado
College, with the exception of the one B in a music course, my GPA was 4.0 on
a scale of 4. At Stanford, for all graded courses I have a cumulative GPA of
3.75, and for courses in Electrical Engineering I have a GPA of 3.62.\pp
I have had no work experience in electronics outside my courses. As you will
see from my transcript, I have been in school every summer since I became
an electrical engineer. My fellowship included summer school work for those
three years. In addition to my EE exposure to electronics, I have a strong
background in the use of measurement equipment from my studies in experimental
physics at Colorado College. I have placed red asterisks next to the relevant
courses on the copy of my Colorado College transcript.
For a more complete description of my abilities, please contact
Dr.\ Val Veirs, listed in the reference section of my application.\pp
I hope that these answers will aid you in evaluating the potential of my
future contribution to Schlumberger. I believe that I have a strong mix of
talents and motivations necessary to work productively as a Schlumberger
field engineer. If there is anything else with which I can provide you,
please let me know. Thank you for your time and consideration.\pp
\ \par\hedin{Sincerely,}
